In fact, Luke andActs really could almost be viewed as twovolumes of one work.Luke 1:3, you might note, “it seemed right andproper to me also, since from the first I had beenacquainted most accurately with everything, towrite these things in sequence, most excellentTheophilus…” Luke addresses his book to anindividual by the name of Theophilus.

It was astyle of writing that was common in the Greekworld when addressing a patron. Luke waswritten to give a detailed story of the thingsthat Jesus taught and did.
